The season premiere of SNL featuring Jim Carrey and Maya Rudolph will premiere October 3
Saturday Night Live is known for doing some of its best and most iconic work during election seasons, and thanks to Jim Carrey and Maya Rudolph it looks like 2020 will be no exception.
The long-running NBC sketch show dropped a promo for its first post-COVID season on Thursday featuring Carrey as an off the hinge Joe Biden and SNL vet Rudolph reprising her role of Sen. Kamala Harris. The new season will premiere Oct. 3.

Given that Harris is now Biden’s vice presidential candidate there is no doubt that this iteration of her character will be feeding off the at times frantic energy of her running mate, who has a reputation for creating real life moments of (unintentional) comedy while on the campaign trail.
In the clip, Carrey and Rudolph are seen slipping into their wigs in a dressing room before unveiling themselves as the show’s new dynamic duo. The video also hints at the return of Alec Baldwin as President Donald Trump.

Earlier this year SNL creator Lorne Michaelsopened up about casting Carrey for the role of Biden, telling Vulture: “There was some interest on his part.”
“Then we responded, obviously, positively. But it came down to discussions about what the take was. He and Colin Jost had a bunch of talks. He and I as well. He will give the part energy and strength, and … hopefully it’s funny,” Michaels explained.
Although Rudolph ended her full-time role on the show in 2007, she is a fan favorite in the franchise and has returned on several occasions to make special appearances. In 2019, she debuted her take on Harris in a sketch where she played the senator as a fun, cable-TV-lawyer archetype.
Her imagining of Harris did so well that after Biden announced Harris as his running mate, Rudolph joked toEntertainment Weekly: “Oh s—, ruh-roh,” seemingly hinting that this meant it would be time for her to get back to work on bringing the VP candidate back to life.
